The aim of the Purchasing and Procurement component will introduce the learner to the principles of modern Procurement techniques. The learner will develop the knowledge, skill and competence required to apply the concepts of Purchasing and Procurement in a modern business environment and to analyse procurement and purchasing procedures and applications. The study of Purchasing can be approached from several perspectives. Such perspectives include those functions, process, link in the supply or value chain, relationship, discipline of the profession. This component will explore these to provide a good overview of Purchasing and Procurement.

The aim of this component is to provide the learner with the knowledge, skills and competency to perform, independently or in a supervisory capacity, the management functions of strategic planning, decision making and waste management within a supply chain or the organization function.  The objective of the component is to promote an understanding of the contribution of the integrated supply chain to the achievement of overall business organisation effectiveness and competitive advantage.

  5. Analyse the relationship between internal and
    external supply chains in both national and
    international environments
  6. Evaluate the main principles underpinning quality
    systems to include the contribution to theory and
    practice of appropriate national and international
    organisations
  7. Propose appropriate key performance indicators
    suitable for supply chain management in a range of
    organizations operating in both the national and
    international environment
  8. Analyse the role of supply chain management in
    environmental protection, including the relationships
    to waste management, sustainable energy, litter, and
    air and water pollution

    respect to sources of materials, waste management
    and product life cycle and disposal
  6. Explain the key components of a contract to include
    the rationale for termination of agreements
  7. Use a classification system to rank procurement
    items in order of importance
  8. Implement tactical and strategic sourcing
  9. Apply relevant criteria for assessment of suppliers
  10. Negotiate effectively during all stages of procurement
    giving due consideration to ethical practices.

Garda Vetting

Garda Vetting is a legal requirement under the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016 for the vetting of persons carrying out work with children or vulnerable persons.

Students must complete the Garda Vetting process before commencing work placement.

Students who have spent more than 6 months living outside of Ireland will need to provide a copy of their Police Clearance Certification for all international addresses that they have lived at, before starting placement.
